Winter Prep: The Garden, Week 2

Well, we had some decent weather this week, so we got to make more progress with winter Prepping the Garden.

This week really was a team effort. Daddy and Tommy topped off beds and inground sections with goat manure compost; Vicky, Maggy, and Emma helped top the compost with sawdust; I laid out 2 layers of black plastic over the cardboard we already put down over our weeded section of the back garden area.

We also decided to prune and harvest the still green Roma Tom’s that were growing, don’t want them ruined from a hard frost.

It was really funny watching the kids stop in front of my phone periodically, as we worked, to give their own commentary, haha!

We also made a fresh batch of copper sulfate and sent a goat off to the butcher this week. Don’t worry, these projects didn’t make it into this week’s video, want to give grace for those who don’t feel comfortable watching such things. I was impressed our girls enjoyed watching the goat be processed after it was slaughtered though. We prepare the kids ahead of time on which animals are for food, when the time is coming, and why that animal has been selected for being food. Every animal here has a purpose, most are for breeding and milk or wool; but almost all can also be used for meat when the need arises.

This week I’m hoping to sort through some seeds and get paper envelopes to organize seeds better; as well as make a list of any seeds we may need to restock for spring planting.

Winter Prep, Week 1

Well, kids and I have been working hard in the garden every day this week. Taking dead plants out of garden beds, moving the potato patch to a new spot; harvesting potatoes, lemon cukes, figs, tomatoes, herbs…

And of course a whole lot of weeding!

The kids have been great helpers, but my body is sore and ready for a rest! Thank you, Lord for bringing us the weekly Shabbat, so that we may rest from our labor and be refreshed by your goodness!

Got one whole side of the garden done far as weeding and cleaning up, will be adding some compost to a couple beds and the inground section in the next day or two. And we cleaned up the flower beds along the back fence and the herb garden area.

This coming week we’ll be weeding and cleaning up the beds on the other side of the garden, and finalize prepping for overwintering some plants, harvest more herbs, and top up garden beds at that end with fresh compost and top soil.

From Our Family To Yours! Happy Independence Day!

Wishing you all a day of celebration and quality memories in the making!

Independence day is a day to celebrate resolve, victory over evil, deliverance from oppression. Like celebrating Passover is remembering becoming free from physical and spiritual bondage, Independence day for Americans is celebrating freedom from tyranny.

From our home, to yours,

“Happy Day of Independence!”

Do I still Do Photography?

Why, yes! yes I do! But, I do it for me!

I kinda got burned out doing it as a business. All the advertising, photographing, post processing, editing, burning, deadlines… and then my babies being sick or teething,or growth spurt and just needing mom…

It just all got to be WAY more than I could handle. I was stressed out, my customers were unhappy cause of missed deadlines… it wasn’t fair to anybody.

So now, I mainly do photography on my own time, for me. Without deadlines, and without clients most the time.

I still accept clients, but I mostly wait for them to come to me, rather than me actively advertising and searching out clients.

Now, I’m back! I’m back to enjoying photography as my art form again! And it’s SO good!

I’ve done a couple weddings, some family photos, but majority of whats on my computer are just pix of my little girls growing up and having adventures. And those are what I love to see the most!

I took this photo this afternoon. with no hurry, no pressure. just me and my girls enjoying an enchanted evening!

Another year gone by…

I had the privilege of doing another family session with my brother and his little family. I hadn’t gotten to do many photos with them this year we finally managed to squeeze in another family session to update the photos from last year.

You can see photos as they are finished under the Family tab.
They are the Family: Silliman, D&B

Here is a photo of them all together last year:

006 1My, how they’ve changed! They all look amazing! I love being able to document the growth these families do, from growth of individuals within the family, to the growth in members of the family. I hope to document much more growth in this family as the years continue to fly by.

Our New Dog: Dixie

Dixie is an 8 year old black Labrador Retriever, and is absolutely wonderful! She arrived at our home last night, and has only given a single bark ONCE! She’s been super quiet, looks like she’s smiling all the time, LOVES all the attention she gets from the kids, and enjoys exploring her new domain. She knows who is in charge in the house. After her walk this morning she went right over to my mom and laid down at her feet. She wags her tail a lot, being so happy in her new home.

She comes, sits, shakes, and stays on command.

Dixie has some medical tape on one leg because she’d been attacked by a dog at her old home. The other dog had attacked her in the past because of being very dominant, and Dixie only finally fought back last night. Her owners decided they’d had enough and needed to find someplace better for dear Dixie.

So, we got the most loveable, huggable, wonderful girl in the world, for free! Because her previous owners knew she needed something better. And what a great fit she’s been thus far!

Sisters and Best Friends

_MG_9416 2We were getting ready to go to a local parade, and had a few minutes before we had to leave. The little girls were looking so cute, and sitting next to each other just hanging out in front of the house. So, of course, I had to take a few photos!

These girls are best friends! The older one hardly spoke till she was 3 1/2 years old, and then she realized she had a little sister who was learning to talk and she could chat with her! These two girls play baby dolls, barbies, cars, dinosaurs…… you name it and they play it together! Its very rare to see these two girls apart from each other.

They’re more than just sisters, they’re Best friends.
